Leflunomide
Indications/Uses
Reduces signs, symptoms & structural damage in active RA; improves joint symptoms & skin lesions in active PSA; active psoriatic arthritis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 100 mg daily for 3 days. Maintenance: 20 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Immunodeficiency states. Impaired bone marrow function or significant anemia, leukopenia, neutropenia or thrombocytopenia due to causes other than RA. Serious infections. Severe hypoproteinemia. Severe hepatic impairment. Moderate to severe renal impairment. Women who are or may become pregnant. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Preexisting anemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, impaired bone marrow function or those at risk of bone marrow suppression. Renal insufficiency. Ped & geriatric patients.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, elevation of liver parameters, leukopenia, headache, dizziness, asthenia, increased BP, wt loss, increased hair loss.
Drug Interactions
Cholestyramine, charcoal, rifampicin & hepatotoxic drugs.
